I like March. It’s always a nice, understated month. I like how the weather (at least here in Charlotte) gives you a sneak peak of spring without getting too warm. And I like the way it stretches on with its 31 days like a lazy Sunday afternoon. For me, this month is all about life planning. I’ve got all kinds irons in the fire and I need to keep stirring things around—hmm, is that where you go with that analogy? What do you do with irons in fire?
Anyways, let’s take a look at last month’s goals.
-Do some more freelance work
Yeah, did some of that. My De Blob 2 review for GamesRadar.com should be up sooner or later.
-Sort out some freelance business stuff
This one is on going. I everything sorted out for the 2010 tax year though.
-Take Brooke out to a delicious Valentine’s Day dinner
More like a Valentine’s Day breakfast. I’m all about breakfast foods. Brinner FTW!
-Buy a new battery for the Thunderbird and get it up and running
Going to take care of that this week actually.
-Find the courage to play through Dead Space and return it to Gamefly
I found the courage, but I’m not sure I’ll finish it. I have other games to play and I’m growing tired of the constant ammo shortages in this game. I seem to only get ammo for the worst gun, and using the worst gun is not fun…because it’s the worst.
-Sign up for the Corporate Cup and maybe get some new shoes
Got some new shoes, but I don’t think I’m doing the Corporate Cup. Just don’t feel comfortable with the amount of training I’ve been able to do.
-Have an awesome first chapter ready to mail out to agents
Yep, mailed it out to a couple of agents already.
-Finish first round revisions on at least half of my book
Blew this one out of the water! Finished my entire first revision, now I’m going back with a second pass with the help of some early readers.
-Eat less, run more, and then run faster
I’m going to pretend I didn’t see this one.
I did a decent job with goals this past month, but I could have done better. A lot happened in February that stole my attention. I have a feeling that might happen a few times in March too. So I’ll be a bit more conservative with the goals this month.
-Work on some more freelance stuff on the side and build/strengthen freelance relationships
-Get my taxes done
-Sign up for the Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston
-Welcome my parents home from their two year stint working and living in Italy
-Finish the script for my graphic novel prequel/side story thing
-Get some meds for Berkeley’s stupid allergies
-Keep improving my craft (both writing and illustrating)
I’m positive I can get all that done this month. I’m finally getting the hang of things at the day job, and I’m still having a great time there. I’m going to start taking commissions on artwork soon. I think I might make my prices available on my site, or just give them out to people that ask. I’m not quite ready to flip the switch on that yet, which means commissions/requests are still free for the time being. If you’ve got some art you’d like to see, let me know and I’ll give it a shot.
Got some March goals of your own? As always, feel free to share them in the comments below, or on your own blog. Hooray for internet accountability!
